Course single

The one year course provides formal qualifications to individuals working in radio and for those who intend to pursue a career in radio. The course is therefore suitable for individuals who are employed in radio and wish to improve their knowledge or those who want to get employed in radio. Those who join the course will learn among other things how to use studio equipment for broadcasting and recording, how to write scripts for different program formats, how to produce and edit radio programs, how to produce radio drama, how to produce live broadcasts and how to set up and conduct interviews on air and off-air. As part of the training, learners will be placed with community and commercial radio stations for a period of three months for work place based training. Field attachment will take place in the months of May and June and in November and December. Those who will successfully pass the course and declared competent will accredited National Certificate in Radio Production issues by the South African Qualification Authority.

Admission Qualifications

Admission requirement for the course is Grade 12 Certificate. Experience in radio will be an advantage. Individuals who do not have Grade 12 certificate but have attended skills programme in radio production, are computer literate and are able to communicate at level 4 in one of the official languages will also be considered.

Tuition Fees and Other Costs

Tuition fees for the course for the 2012 academic year will be R 10 000. Accommodation may be available on campus on first come first served basis at an additional charge that will be determined by the FET College.
